ACTIVITIES OF ADAPT RIGHTS GROUP

  • It has filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) against the State of Maharashtra for non implementation of the Persons with Disability Act.
  • Conducting Access Audits of public places and appealing to the authorities to make inaccessible places disabled friendly.  As a result of ARG’s lobbying, hospitals, multiplex cinema halls, shopping malls and amusement parks have been made disabled friendly.
  • ADAPT also endeavors to bring about changes in society’s attitudes towards the disabled, and issues related to disability  via electronic news and print media.
  • 2005 was a memorable year for the Members of ARG.  In 2004 they were denied entry to the Mumbai Marathon.  The rules stated “No wheelchair vehicles or animals allowed on the course”.

 
After detailed discussions and intervention from politicians, on 16th January 2005, a landmark event allowed wheelchair participants to run the Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon for the first time in India.

  • Institute of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation

  • The auditory signal outside NAB
